RAILA MEETING RATTLES KENYA PARLIAMENT.

A meeting chaired by Raila Odinga and CORD Pricipals, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula as well as CORD Minority Leader Francis Nyenze has rattled Kenya's parliament by withdrawing all CORD mps from departmental committees. The meeting resolved as follows: That CORD Coalition expresses its dissatisfaction with the manner in which the ruling Jubilee Coalition is using unorthodox means to frustrate the legislative agenda of the house by flexing their numerical muscles to suppress the minority in the house especially on the composition of house departmental and select committees. CORD wishes to inform the public that the democracy they have for years fought for is under threat and that it will not be business as usual in Parliament until that time that Jubilee Coalition leadership will have realized that Democracy applies to both the majority and the minority. CORD will not cede ground on the membership and chairmanship of the public watchdog committees, The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Public Investments Committee (PIC). Therefore CORD has recalled its members from all the already formulated committees eg appointments with immediate effect until the stalemate on the membership of PAC and PIC is resolved. That contrary to claims by Jubilee Coalition leaders insinuating that CORD members in the 10th Parliament moved an amendment to the Standing Orders on the composition of house committees, it is the Speaker of the Senate Hon. Ekwee Ethuro who moved it on the 9th of January this year, just in the sunset of the life of the 10th parliament. He must therefore explain what and who prompted him to move that amendment.
