E-COMMERCE REVOLUTION IN KENYA

It would be unthinkable, a decade ago, to have imagined that Kenya would be the hub of e-commerce in Sub-Saharan Africa. Thanks to the arrival of the optic fibre connectivity to Europe, Asia and the entire globe, Kenya's fast Internet is now unmatched in the entire African continent. In Eastern Africa one of the revolutionary  projects that has attracted most attention from the country’s growing hub of software developers has been the connection of e-commerce to mobile payment systems such as M-Pesa, Zap, Orange Money and Yu Cash.It is just a matter of time before Kenya becomes the envy of all and sundry for its technological leap. The government of Kenya has in place sound economic policies favourable to the expansion of the Telecommunications sector, in line with its ambitious Vision 2030 Economic blueprint. With the immense growth of the electronic commerce segment, vision 2030 might be realised earlier than envisioned.
The world recognizes Kenya for its rich culture especially among the Maasai, who have been faithful to their traditions since time immemorial. This is the chief reason that makes Kenya the most admired tourist destination in Africa. With the Nairobi national park right in the capital city, many tourists find it convenient to access nature's wonderful scenery and wildlife without the hustle and bustle of exhaustive travelling.
With the advent of e-commerce, tourism in Kenya is also expected to grow in leaps and bounds since the payments to game parks, hotel reservations and airline reservations have now been largely automated. Now, even tours and travel agencies provide easy access to their services online through secure mobile money payment systems including M-pesa, Airtel Money, Yu-Cash as well as the usual world-famous systems as Paypal and Payza.
